worlds worst mother...ME

What a lazy slug am I??
My kids started school waaaaaaaaaayyyyy back in August. I have had these First Day of School photos sitting in my camera for almost 3 weeks now. what a terrible mom I am, not documenting this until now.( I am not going to lie...The only reason they got downloaded into the computer is because i was clearing my memory card for our trip tomorrow.)
Why did this take me so long? What is wrong with me?
I feel like the worlds worst mother. So here we are, without further ado:

Here is Peter, starting 3rd grade. 9 years old and knows everything already. Oh and apparently I embarass him when i hug and kiss on him in public now.Sigh, only 7am and he already has something dribbled down the front. Why is it so hard to keep them clean??
Here's finn, the big bad 1st grader. He isnt as "mom you're embarassing me" as Peter, and even has moments of spontaneous affection in Public. Ohhh look. He has yoghurt on his brand new shirt. Surprise surprise.

And here is Jake, missing his boys. He has been moping around and when they get home it is an all out love and lick fest. Do you Love the 1972 rust "cobblestone-esque" vinyl flooring?. We pulled up the carpet this summer and found this underneath. We want to put in hardwoods to match the rest of the house. So until that gets done this flooring is what I am stuck with.Oh look, jake even has pine sap spots on his fur - i wonder if he did it to match the boys shirts?

My first day of school

So Sunday night I was so excited I couldnt sleep a wink. I tossed and turned. I hemmed and hawed. I felt like I looked at the clock every hour on the hour. I get this way before Christmas, I get this way before disneyworld, I get this way when I am nervous or excited.

So I finally get up and we get the boys off to school. Charles takes me out for a "First Day of School Bagel". I had the Leonardo De Veggie on rosemary and olive oil bagel. I ♥ Bruggers
Bagels

SO I get to school and there are 12 in my class. We are in a little room with those folding chairs with the attached flip over desks on them...you know the desks that have been so abused by previous students that they no longer lie flat.
We get to know each other. I am the oldest in the class, followed by a girl who is 29, then there is one who is 25. The rest are all 18 through 22. Several of them infants, fresh out of high school Ink Barely dry on their diplomas.
We have one male in our class and he made it clear from day one that he liked girls. He wanted to clear that up early.

So we take a mini tour of the school and get our lockers. (yes Lockers...just like High school)
THEN the fun began. In rolled the huge Cardboard boxes. One giant box for everyone. It was our first shipment of supplies.
It was filled with a giant black roller wheel suitcase Then we had all of our textbooks, 3 mannequin heads (tiffany, courtney and destiny), 8 brushes, 9 combs a zillion rollers, rods, pins, bowls etc etc etc. So we had to go through and check off our inventory list to make sure everything was there. We played with our mannequin heads for awhile, getting used to the feel of them, learning to attach them to the rod base on a table or chair or anywhere that a clamp can be used. They are real human hair and come complete with grey hairs, split ends, cowlicks and more. They are really amazing. Courtney is my favorite. She has my kind of hair. Thick, with split ends and grey hair and a tendency to curl. So she is the one I think I will work most vigorously with.

After lunch we got into skin. Learning all about bacteria and communicable disease. Today we are going into skin diseases, how to recognize them and the proper treatment.
For the next two weeks we will be working on skin and facials and skin disorders and things like that. We jump in from day one. They dont waste time and there is no messing around.

Of course we are in uniform. We have to wear straight black and/or white. No patterns, no stripes, nothing. One solid color.
They also recommend you always look your best, hair and make-up etc. That way we present a good image for the school. So I guess I am being forced to get manicures and pedicures and highlights . sigh, my life is so hard.

So that was my first day. we are jumping into facials and skin care full time today.
Our next shipment comes in a few weeks, it has our haircutting shears, color supplies, nail supplies and remaining mannequin heads, including Kyle, the male mannequin who has long shaggy hair and beard, nose hair and ear hair.

I am really excited and got a much better night of sleep last night, now that the excitement of the first day has passed.

Hot diggity dog! School is HERE!!

So this morning Peter started 2nd grade!!
Last night we set out his clothes(what else, a Bumblebee transformers T-shirt and shorts).
So this morning, like clockwork he got dressed, ate breakfast, helped pack his lunch, took his medicine and brushed his teeth. We all piled in the car and drove him to school. Even Finn, who is excited to start Kindergarten.
We dropped him off and he gave us a salute, said "see ya" and trotted off to his class.
Finn starts on Wednesday. They have staggered entry here for Kindergarden. Each day Monday through Thursday only a few kids in each class go, so they can get to know the routine, the rules, the teacher etc. Then on Friday ALL the kids start full time.
So I guess that is nice for me. I still get to keep my Finny home a few more days.
I know I SAY I am excited for school to start so I have the day to myself, but actually I think I will miss them. We will see.
But on the flip side.... It WILL be nice to be able to keep the house clean for more than 5 minutes. it will be nice to be able to work on the computer getting stuff done without hearing "mom, can you download the spongebob game?" or "Hey! I wanted to play on the computer!".
I can go to the Y without having to fight the whims and desires of kids. If they dont feel like going it will take them 3 times as long to find their shoes, get dressed etc, until I have effectively missed my class and left my voice hoarse from yelling at them to get their butts in gear.
I can go grocery shopping without hearing "Can I get some Candy? waaahhh I want candy! YES! CANDY!!" or "Can we look at Toys??"
In fact I can go shopping anywhere I want without having to yell at them to "get back here! Quit touching that! Dont knock that over! Quit running into each other"
No more "Can we go to McDonalds? They have toys there we like!"
No more "I'm bored!"
No more door being left open, making our house a breeding ground for flies in the NC Charlotte area.(Ugh the FLIES. I killed 7 on the window yesterday. I have to go get some fly paper)
So Thank you Lord for helping me survive this summer and thank you that school has begun!

Day trip from Boise- Hells Canyon and Dam , and Owyhee Reservoir

"Hells Canyon, North America's deepest rover gorge, encompasses a vastly remote region with dramatic changes in elevation, terrain,...
